What a great day!

I've had the most swell day! I went on my karajini gorges tour (ie the gorges in the Karajini National Park). It was great. Just looked at all my photos, they didn't all come out as well as I'd hoped but that's to be expected without a tripod. Next time I'll bring a tripod I think :)

On my way to the first gorge I saw a bus bogged in the dirt on the side of the road, some random backpacker tour operator bus. I stopped to check they were okay and whatnot and they were, reckoned they'd hit a soft patch and gone off the road and got bogged. Seems to me like whoever was driving is a bit of a tool and CLEARLY can't drive. I wasn't able to render them any assistance, they needed a grader to come pull em out, so after making sure they were otherwise alright and that someone was on the way I left them to it. First stop was Weano Gorge, which turned out to be where several watercourses meet up, and as such, there's many gorges there to see. I went down Hancock Gorge, the sign said it would take 3 hours and was a 1.5km trip. I don't know if it really was that far but it only took me about 45 minutes to an hour to go in quite far and then back out. It was really nice there.

Next I went and had a look at some falls or other. There having not been much rain for a while there was no water running over the falls, so i looked briefly and moved on.

Then I went to circular pool, which turns out to also be Dales Gorge (no wonder there were no circular pool signs) which was an incredible spot. Again the sign said it would take 2 hours but it only took me 45 minutes. Tell you what though, I'm glad I'm young, fit and nimble cause it probably would've taken me two hours if I wasn't. Circular pool was really nice, the water running in to it comes out of the walls, it realy just looks incredible... definately another tripod spot :)

Last stop was Wittenoom. It's basically a ghost town but a few people still live there. It has a gem shop which has an incredible selection of stuff you can buy, as well as a really good rock collection of which I was a little envious :) I kinda wanted to buy something but couldn't be arsed dicking around choosing something and I had no cash and could see no eftpos facilities so I figured bugger it... maybe next time :) I did go and have a look see in the Wittenoom gorge, saw the old asbestos tailings and stuff. Ended up doing a little 4 wheel driving down the creek bed (no doubt full of asbestos fibres) before reaching a dead end, where I got out and collected some rocks with asbestos veins in them for my rock collection. They're sweet looking rocks, but the asbestos is pretty flaky so i'll have to seal them in something.

All in all my trip took me about 7 and a half hours, and i drove some 415km. It was excellent. Next time I think I will have to take a tripod, and just go to one gorge, make a day of it :) Or better yet, go in my own time sometime and take friends... of course that would actually cost money, as oppossed to today which was free...free car, free fuel and free food.

I have to say people, you gotta go see all this stuff when you're young, cause the gorges don't really cater to the old, it's a bit tricky, and a hard climb back up the VERY steep stairs out of the gorges.

Oh, and how's this, you have to pay 9 bucks to go into Karajini national park... worth every penny mind, and you could just not pay and hope not to be caught out, but i did pay... honest fellow that I am. Luckily I didn't spend all my cash on beer last night so I had enough :)

Karijini's beautiful.

I think you can post photos directly from you computer now. It's on the blogger dashboard, but you just click on the pic icon in the post and there's an option to browse from your computer.

It didn't work for me though.
